Join us TONIGHT at 7pm for a fascinating presentation by Dr. Leslie Young!  The title of her talk is Adventures and Misadventures in Astronomy – “in-reach and out-reach”!

Leslie is a planetary scientist from Southwest Research Institute in Boulder and Wild Wonder Foundation. She is an expert on small celestial bodies in the solar system and was the Pluto Encounter Planning lead for NASA’s New Horizons mission to Pluto and the Kuiper Belt. Leslie was one of our previous presenters about the incredible 2015 Pluto flyby.

Leslie earned her BA degree in Physics from Harvard University and her Ph.D. in Planetary Science from MIT.

Since 2024, Leslie has been studying and teaching various ways to engage with the night sky, including visual or binocular stargazing and ways to capture the experience on the page through field sketching and the written word – and she adds a dash of poetry to boot! “The sky belongs to all of us! This is fun and deeply grounding,” Young explains.

Come hear what Leslie’s been doing, share what you have been doing, and let’s mutually invite ourselves to more deeply connect with the natural world. If we have clear night skies on Saturday, we will set up our telescopes and binoculars to observe the celestial sky above.

You don’t need any previous knowledge of astronomy or space exploration. We ask all our presenters to gear their talks for the general public.
